Napoleon's loss at Waterloo led him to be banished to the desert isle of Saint Helena. In his final years there he took up gardening. I've spent a lot of my own time turning the earth; and I imagine that his mind would often wander off to those blasted fields of Europe that he nearly conquered.

The request for this design came from Der Kaiser himself, Franz Beckenbauer. And you don't dare turn down Mr Beckenbauer. I used the Opel sponsor since it was on their kits the last time they won the Champions League. They need a bit of luck and determined play since as I write this the home stadium of FC Basel is still rocking from their 1-0 upset of the Bavarian neighbors.

For the 2012-13 season I say they go back to stripes for the home jersey. Black for the away and I mixed it up a little for the Third kit. I saw that some of FCB's kits in the early 1900s were claret and blue so I riffed off of that design. Mia San Mia, let me know what you think!

The risorius retracts the angle of the mouth to produce a smile, albeit an insincere-looking one that does not involve the skin around the eyes.

Violence of Medea I: For Glauce

My 200th post! It's like celebrating your 200th conversation with yourself! Yay! You're crazy!

The painting here is another in the Jason cycle I've been doting on recently. It is the first part of Medea descent into rage and violence. The golden dress was poisoned by her and given to the paramour of Jason, Glauce. Anytime the garment came in contact with sunlight it would burst into inextinguishable flame. It took the lives of both Glauce and her father King Creon.

Liminal Ram

Liminal Ram, 2011. 18" x 24". Pencil, acrylic, oil pastel, chalk and gold flake on paper.

This is another addition to the series on Jason and the Argonauts. Depicted here is the Golden Fleece. The ram who's pelt Jason quested to find. Emblazoned on the male sheep's head is a the female reproductive system. The uterus and cervix in pink on it's forehead. The fallopian tubes below the horns terminate in the ram's ears. The eyes become ovaries. While Jason labored to legitimize his royal seat by obtaining the Golden Fleece my wife and I have struggled with conceiving a child. The problem is mainly on my end and it weights heavy upon me. The words "fallo" and "child birth" can be seen scrawled at the bottom of the page. Fallo in Spanish can mean "failure". I used it as a hint for fallopian tubes to find the reproductive system hidden in the face.
